A starting pay of $35.36/hr, up to $44.71/hr for lateral entry, with a unique schedule: 3 days on, 3 days off, with 11-hour shifts—giving you more time to recharge and live life outside the uniform.

Job Description/General Duties:
- Responsible for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances in a designated area on an assigned shift.
 - Work involves an element of personal danger and officers must be able to act with and without direct supervision, and must exercise independent discretion in handling emergencies.
 - Employees may be assigned to work on special assignments, which call upon specialized abilities and knowledge typically obtained through training and experience as a uniformed police officer.
 - Responds to complaints involving criminal activity, crisis intervention, motor vehicle crashes, emergency medical calls, and engage in community policing.
 - Conducts preliminary investigations, identifies and interviews victims and witnesses, collects evidence, completes reports and effects arrests when necessary.
 - Works in partnership with other officers, investigators, law enforcement agencies and court officials to investigate suspicious or criminal activity.
 - Serves summonses, warrants, subpoenas, and/or other documents.
 - Participates in continuous training to enhance law enforcement skills
 
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a high school graduate
 - Must be 21 years old, or 20 years old with at least 60 credits from an accredited College, or age 19, currently enrolled in an accredited post secondary education program with at least 40 credit hours.
 - Must be at least 21 years old upon completion of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy training.
 - Must have no disqualifying conduct or conviction and no serious or recurrent motor vehicle violation history.
 - Must successfully complete physical fitness test.
 - Must complete a background evaluation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation and medical assessment. ***Polygraph examination and psychological examination for in-state laterals may be waived at discretion of the Chief of Police***
 
Testing Requirements:
- Physical Fitness Test (must pass at the 40 percentile based on Cooper Standards), one minute push-up test, one minute sit-up test, and 1.5 mile run ***may be waived for in-state and out-of-state lateral candidates***
 - Upon hiring, must attend the 18 week Maine Criminal Justice Academy's Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP). Out-of-state lateral entries may be eligible for an academy waiver.
