ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY
Welcome to Hartford, CT!  We’re an 18-square-mile city, home to 125,000 residents, world class dining, international cultural attractions, award winning entertainment venues and some of the largest corporations in the nation.

Hartford is the largest municipal Police Department in Connecticut. It is the Capital City and stands at the forefront of modern policing. We are a department rich in history, diversity, and opportunity. Our officers come from a wide range of backgrounds, bringing unique experiences and perspectives that strengthen our team and the community we serve.

At HPD, career advancement is expected. Unlike smaller departments where growth is limited, we offer a wide array of specialized units and divisions that allow you to excel in your chosen field. 
Our reputation speaks for itself. Agencies from across the state actively seek to work with us on joint task forces because HPD sets the standard. Many of our officers have gone on to become Chiefs and leaders in other departments and at the state level.
