POSITION SUMMARY:

The City of York Civil Service Board oversees the examination process for the position of Police Officer. Once the examination process is complete, the City of York Civil Service Board presents passing candidates to the City for consideration of employment. The City of York Civil Service Board determines an applicant's eligibility for examination without regard to race, color, sex, creed, religion, national origin, and marital status.
Completion of this application does not guarantee any applicant an opportunity to examine, interview or employment. The City of York Civil Service Board predetermines eligibility criteria for examination.
The selection process will include a detailed review of your application packet and the successful completion of the Board's selection process which includes but may not be limited to the following:
Written Examination -Passing Score 70%
Oral Examination-Passing Score 70%
Detailed Background Investigation, including a Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA)or polygraph - Pass
Psychological Examination- Pass
Medical Examination to include vision/hearing and drug testing - Pass

Job Description:
The Police Officer represents the front line where agency policies and plans are translated into action. This includes the prevention, detection, and suppression of crime, preservation of law and order, and the protection of life and property.
Police Officers professionally and efficiently deliver critical services to citizens whom they serve. Police Officers provide a full range of police service to the City of York. Police Officers are held directly responsible for handling law enforcement problems, calls for service, citizen requests, police-citizen relations, and police customer service issues.
Police Officers shall be responsible for the effective and efficient performance of their duties in conformity with the policies and procedures of the department.

· Provide for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations.
· Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts.
· Patrol specific areas on foot, or motorized conveyance, responding promptly to calls
for assistance.
· Monitor, note, report, and investigate suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol area.
· Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities.
· Review facts of incidents to determine if criminal act or statute violations were involved.
· Render aid to accident victims and other people requiring first aid for physical injuries.
· Testify in court to present evidence or act as witness in traffic and criminal cases.

What are the minimum requirements to apply?
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
No experience required for this position.
Current Act 120 certification not required to apply for this position.
Act 120 certified candidates, out of state certified police officers, or those who are enrolled in an academy are highly encouraged to apply as full and partial waivers are available.
Must be 21 years of age or older by the posting expiration date of March 29, 2025
Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
Must be able to perform the essential job functions of a Police Officer
