General Statement of Job

This position is under the direction of the Health Service Manager. This position provides assessment, diagnostics, treatment planning, discharge planning, individual and/or group therapy to patients at the Walton County Jail as part of an established behavioral health care program.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • One (1) year work experience in the counseling or mental health field.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Regular and prompt job attendance.
  • Follow all standards and patient care protocols, all federal, state, correctional health care standards, and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office policies, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Collect data about patients through interview, case history, psychological tests, and or/observation techniques. Evaluate data to identify causes of problems and determine proper therapeutic approaches or referral to other specialists.
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to patients as appropriate to the position.
  • Provide therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services as required.
  • Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of care provided in the patient’s health record.
  • Maintains data entry within the scope of behavioral health services provided.
  • Consults with other practitioners and related staff as appropriate in the performance of therapeutic duties and/or casework.
  • Facilitates and participates in patient educational health procedures.
  • Participates in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiency.
  • Conducts re-entry planning with patients to ensure continuity of care and linkages with necessary programming.
  • Make treatment and social service referrals to appropriate agencies that support client goals.
  • Attends mandatory and other training as required.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring and interpretation and DSM 5.
  • Knowledge of a range of counseling and therapeutic techniques.
  • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
  • Skill in interviewing and identifying psychological and developmental problems.
  • Skill in effective writing.
  • Ability to accurately assess patient presentation in order to develop diagnosis and individualized treatment plan.
  • Ability to apply behavioral health counseling and techniques.
  • Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse community.

Standards to Perform Job Functions

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit up to 6 hours per day
  • Stand up 4 hours per day
  • Walk up 4 hours per day
  • Frequently lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequently bend, reach, or twist
