A Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer

GENERAL DUTIES

The Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II (SLEO Class II) is a part time member of the Police Department. The SLEO Class II is tasked to provide public safety and law enforcement services to a public entity. Officers of this class shall be authorized to exercise full powers and duties similar to those of a permanent, regularly appointed full-time police officer. The use of a firearm by an officer of this class may be authorized only after the officer has been fully certified as successfully completing training as prescribed by the Police Training Commission.  Please note that this position is in anticipation of upcoming retirements with the potential of transitioning to a full-time position. 

 

SALARY

Hourly Rate Of $20.00 to $25.00

ABOUT LONG HILL TOWNSHIP

The Township consists of four communities: the villages of Gillette, Millington and Stirling, and the hamlet of Meyersville. Homestead Park is the name of the first subdivision in the Township developed in the 1920's.

Long Hill Township is located in the most southern part of Morris County, New Jersey. It is bounded by the Passaic River on the south and west, and by the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge on the north. It borders both Union and Somerset Counties.

Long Hill Township has a population of approximately 9,000 residents and is about 12.13 square miles. 55% of the Township consists of vacant land, parks, conservation and open space areas, due principally to the existence of wetlands, flood plains and steep slopes. 47% of the township is public parkland.

 

ABOUT LONG HILL TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT

Our Department consists of a close-knit group of 23 officers, with a large percentage of senior officers approaching retirement.

Our Department has an outdoor range, allowing for convenient access to personalized training.

Our Department emphasizes and promotes individual development through specialized training.

Our goal is to equip our officers with the best tools and current technology to accomplish the job.

  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

*Applicants must have at least 60 College Credits or 3 years of military experience

*Applicants must possess a current Police Training Commission (PTC) Certificate for SLEO II

*Be a United States Citizen

*Be a resident of New Jersey

*Hold a valid New Jersey driver’s license

*Have the ability to read, write and speak the English language clearly and intelligently

*Have and demonstrate good moral character and have not been convicted of any crime constituting an indictable offense or any offense involving moral turpitude; verified by a background investigation

*Pass an oral interview

*Pass a Physical agility test

*Pass a psychological examination

*Pass a drug test

*Pass a medical screening

*Meet all qualifications of N.J.S.A. 40A:14-146 et seq.
