CERTIFIED PATROL OFFICER POSITIONS (3)
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The patrol officer shall be responsible for the enforcement of the applicable laws of the State of New Hampshire and ordinances of the Town of Merrimack. He/she is also responsible for efficient performance of required duties in conformance with the rules, regulations, and policies of the Merrimack Police Department. His/her duties include responding to emergency and non-emergency calls; identifying criminal offenders/activity and where appropriate, apprehend offenders; reduce the opportunity for the commission of crimes through preventative patrol; aid individuals who are in danger of physical harm; facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic; identify problems that are potentially serious law enforcement or governmental problems; create and maintain a feeling of security within the community; promote and preserve the peace. Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Applicants shall meet all standards set forth by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council.
HIRING PROCESS
- Written Exam for Out of State Certified Police Officers (Current NH certified officers exempt from written exam)
- Physical Agility Test
- Oral Board Interview
- Chief’s Interview
- Background Investigation
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Evaluation
- Successful applicants will serve a up to one-year probationary period

SALARY AND BENEFITS
- Pay range for Patrolman: $56,492 - $67,059, plus incentives after trial period
- After 5 Years as Patrol Officer with the Department, pass as test to be promoted to Master Patrolman: current range is $68,161 - $71,552 plus incentives
- Health, group life, and short-term disability insurance premiums are currently 100% employer paid.
- Includes paid vacation/personal leave and sick leave, and participation in the New Hampshire Retirement System.
