Police Officer

The Woodstock Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of full-time Police Officer.  Preference will be afforded to those candidates currently certified by Police Standards and Training or whose out-of-state certification will be recognized by PSTC. 

The Woodstock Police Department is a proactive, community-based agency which serves the needs of both residents and guests.  Located in the White Mountains, the Town of Woodstock is a traditional northern New England community in appearance. It is also a popular tourist destination for skiing, hiking, camping and general outdoor adventure.  

The Town of Woodstock is an equal opportunity employer, offering a competitive compensation package with starting pay of $68,544 before detail and overtime opportunities.  In addition, the Town of Woodstock offers longevity bonuses, holiday bonuses and other unique benefits available to interested parties.

Well suited candidates will be required to complete a physical agility test, oral board, polygraph, medical and psychological examination, as well as an extensive background investigation. Some requirements may be waived for certified candidates.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Protect residents and guests by preventing crime, enforcing laws, apprehending suspects and monitoring traffic
  • Enforce all federal, state and local laws
  • Preform high profile, proactive patrol either on foot or while operating an emergency vehicle
  • Respond to disturbances and mediate disputes
  • Apprehend suspects by observing violations and making arrests
  • Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing victims and witnesses, or interrogating suspects
  • Document observations and actions through report writing
  • Report observations and actions while testifying in court
  • Fulfill court orders by serving warrants and issuing subpoenas
  • Communicate effectively via radio, telephone and other forms of media
  • Maintain safe traffic conditions by monitoring and directing traffic, enforcing motor vehicle laws, investigating accidents and reporting unsafe or defective conditions
  • Provide lifesaving care through basic first aid, CPR or assisting emergency medical services
  • Maintain issued equipment to ensure operational readiness
  • Maintain fitness standards required by Police Standards and Training
  • Serve in situations requiring a shift from rest to near maximum physical exertion instantly and preform lifesaving tasks in life threatening situations
  • Preform other duties as assigned
  • Exposure to repulsive physical trauma and other situations involving distress or psychological deprivation

The Woodstock Police Department operates on a 45-hour work week. Officers enjoy their own assigned vehicle, cellular telephone, 11 Federal holidays, 2 floating holidays and comp-time.

Educations, Experience and Certification Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, military or college preferred
  • Must possess a valid New Hampshire driver’s license
  • NH PSTC Certification preferred or the ability to obtain certification by attending the Police Standards and Training Academy
