TOWN OF SHIRLEY FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER

The Town of Shirley Police Department is currently accepting applications to fill a full-time police officer position. Shirley is a town in Middlesex County bordered by the Towns of Ayer, Devens, Lancaster, Lunenburg, Harvard, Groton and Townsend. Our ideal candidate is a motivated, driven individual that is committed to community policing philosophy and police best practices.

Minimum Requirements are a High School Diploma; those candidates with a college degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology and or (related field) are desirable. A Full-Time MPTC/MCJTC Police Academy only.

Benefits include a 4/2 schedule, 75/25 Health Coverage. Short-Term and Long-Term Disability, Paid Holidays, sick-time, $1500 uniform allowance, $500 Narcan Stipend, EMT Stipend $250, Opportunity for overtime and paid details. Starting salary is $50,183.98 annually plus education incentive. Evening and midnight shift differential. Detail rate of $58.92 an hour.  

Candidates would need to complete and pass all phases of the selection process including interviews, extensive background investigation, medical and psychological examinations.

Duties:

Responsible for maintaining security and safety in the Town of Shirley enforcing laws and regulations for the protection of life and property. Preventing and investigating crimes, directing and maintaining traffic flow, and responding to emergency situations. Will be assigned specific patrol areas in uniform on a regularly scheduled basis to respond to emergency calls, requests for assistance, enforcing criminal and motor vehicle codes and laws, pedestrian and vehicular traffic and will make security checks of buildings, parks, playgrounds, and public assemblies. Responsible for identifying situations which are potential law enforcement problems; identifying criminal offenders and activities; investigating circumstances and apprehending of offenders, while keeping superior officers informed along the way. Will investigate criminal and non-criminal cases and accidents, obtaining accurate information and prepare reports and documentation for presentation in court proceedings as required. Perform special assignments as required. Will assist the general public, aiding individuals in danger of physical harm, counseling adults and juveniles on criminal and non-criminal matters, intervening in the case of disputes and referring people to appropriate agencies or jurisdictions for further help as needed.
