ABOUT US:

The Elizabethtown Police Department is a dynamic, progressive agency that has been serving the Elizabethtown community since 1911.  Elizabethtown Borough has a population of approximately 11,500 residents and includes the Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown Area High and Middle School Campus and two elementary schools.  The department currently employs 18 full time police officers and 2 administrative civilian personnel.  Officers include the chief of police, lieutenant, corporals, detectives, school resource officer and patrol officers.  We are a COMMUNITY-FOCUSED police department, with officers trained in bicycle patrol, forensics, DUI enforcement and traffic safety.  Our officers participate in a number of community-based youth programs and we interact with our neighborhood partners on a daily basis.  EPD is moving quickly into the future of 21st Century Policing, using innovative digital resources and policing strategies in our effort to always better serve our community.

Department officers are assigned to various county task forces and teams to include Lancaster County Major Crimes Unit, Lancaster County Forensics Team, and a Regional Crash Investigative Team.  The police station also serves as a regional booking center for the fingerprinting and photographing of criminal suspects.  This regional facility is utilized by three other police departments.  The department is dispatched through the Lancaster County-Wide Communications.

BENEFITS:

Officers with the EPD currently work an attractive 12-hour schedule that affords them an excellent balance of responsibility at work and time off with their families.  Benefits also include: pension, vision, dental, prescription, and medical coverage, life insurance, paid vacation, court time, longevity pay, education bonus, and department-issued uniforms and equipment. We also offer a competitive salary range as provided within the existing CBA, with the starting salary currently set between $52,689 and $66,469, depending upon experience.  EPD officers currently enjoy a generous residency requirement that must be met within the first year of employment.

OUR MISSION:

The Elizabethtown Police Department is committed to providing the highest quality of police services by empowering our members and the community to work in partnership with the goal of improving the quality of life within Elizabethtown Borough, while at the same time maintaining respect for individual rights and human dignity.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER STATEMENT:

The Elizabethtown Police Department is committed to the principle of equal employment opportunity for all employees and to providing employees with a work environment free of discrimination and harassment. All employment decisions at the EPD are based on organizational needs, job requirements/descriptions/essential functions, and individual qualifications, without regard to race, color, religion or belief, national, social or ethnic origin, or any other status protected by the laws or regulations in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The EPD will not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on any of these characteristics.

Disqualification: There are very few automatic bases for rejection.  Even issues of prior misconduct, such as prior illegal drug use, driving under the influence, theft or even arrest or conviction are usually not, in and of themselves, automatically disqualifying. However, deliberate misstatements or omissions can and often will result in your application being rejected, regardless of the nature or reason for the misstatements/omissions. In fact, the number one reason individuals "fail" background investigations is because they deliberately withhold or misrepresent job-related information from their employer.
