JOB SUMMARY:

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Child Protective Investigator Supervisor for the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Child Protection Unit.  This position is non-sworn and involves advanced professional work supervising and directing the work of Child Protective Investigators and support staff, as well as the intervention, investigation, and case management of alleged crimes against children (including but not limited to abuse, abandonment, and neglect).  The position will be assigned to a day shift with varying days off and applicants must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.   

MAJOR FUNCTION

Advanced professional work supervising and directing the work of Child Protection Investigators and support staff. This position involves the intervention, investigation, and case management of alleged crimes against children (including but not limited to abuse, abandonment, and neglect).

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES (The duties listed below are for illustrative purposes only. The omission of specific work statements does not necessarily exclude them from being performed by the position).

Develops management tools to assure the quality and efficient timelines of services provided by investigators. Collects, analyzes, and reports data in area of expertise.

Provides leadership of the unit in the assignment of cases, and reviews and assists with complex cases and the scheduling of work activities on a regular basis. Develops performance standards and job duty expectations, reviews standards and plans for continuous improvement.

Reviews and ensures proper documentation of investigators casework.

Supervises assigned personnel. Initiates and effectively recommends performance evaluations, disciplinary and/or commendatory actions for assigned personnel.  Conducts supervisory inquiries as required.

Identifies and resolves problems in area served; develop strategies, programs, and methods.

Develops and recommends operating procedures. Assists superiors in planning, research, and in the development of budgetary requests.  Makes recommendations for improved efficiency and performance.

Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary in the efficient and effective performances of the position functions.

Performs all duties as subordinate personnel as may be necessary in the efficient and effective performance of the position functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Education, Guidance/Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related field and two years of experience as a Child Protective Investigator; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.

Must be certified as a Child Protective Investigator

Applicant must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License and demonstrate good driving habits.

Applicant may not have been convicted or adjudicated guilty of any crimes involving children.

Pass thorough background investigation, polygraph and drug screening.
