Job Announcement

The basic duties of a police officer include patrolling, traffic enforcement, responding to calls for service and addressing the community concerns related to crime and quality of life issues.  Pre-certified Officers will attend a shortened training program that focuses on the transition to the Chesterfield County Police Department. A pay incentive is provided to certified officers who are selected for employment.

 

The Chesterfield County Police Department is a progressive and professional department located in Central Virginia near the City of Richmond.  We offer paid training, permanent shifts and a take home vehicle.  We also offer paid retirement and a GI Bill approved academy.  The department is a full service agency with 21 specialized units including SWAT, K-9 and Investigations.   Officers are eligible to join specialized units one year after field training. 

 

For in-state applicants, possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire.  Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program.  Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered.  High school diploma or GED; must be a US citizen; successful applicants must pass a written and a physical agility test, possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months and no DUI conviction within the past five years; binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to:  misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault; pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.  Pre-certified officers will attend an abbreviated 14-week academy and will receive a full field training experience to maximize assimilation and familiarization, emphasizing Chesterfield County Police Department philosophy, policies and procedures.
