JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:  POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT–

Part time 22 hours per week

WHAT THE JOB INVOLVES: Police Administrative Assistants, under supervision, with some latitude for independent action, initiative or decision, perform responsible and difficult clerical, typing, word processing and data entry tasks in a police station. They perform administrative work of moderate difficulty involving the handling of confidential and other information and material; refer members of the public who ask for assistance to the appropriate officer or agency; utilize manual and automated office systems; type records, reports, forms and schedules; review and verify written information; receive, send, separate and distribute mail; obtain from and transmit information to the public or members of the police department; occasionally perform cashier or messenger duties; and perform related work. Preference will be given to candidates who possess prior experience with C.A.D./RMS systems, discovery for municipal court proceedings and law enforcement or related past employment history.

THE SALARY:    $18.00 per hour.  Early Evening and Saturday Hours Required

HOW TO QUALIFY: You are responsible for determining whether or not you meet the qualification requirements for this position prior to submitting your application.

Education and Experience Requirements: By the last day of the Application Period you must have:

  1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and
  • (a) One year of satisfactory experience performing clerical, word processing or data entry duties in a law enforcement setting; or
  • (b) One year of satisfactory experience in public contact work requiring the obtaining and recording of information from persons; or
  • (c) Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college; or
  • (d) Two years of active military duty; or
  1. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to 1(a), 1(b), 1(c), or 1(d) above. If you were educated outside the United States, you must have your foreign education evaluated to determine its equivalence to education obtained in the United

Education and Experience will be investigated by the Police Department during the pre-employment screening process. Final candidates must pass a thorough background investigation.

English Requirement: You must be able to understand and be understood in English.
