FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICERS

GENERAL DUTIES
The Patrol Officer serves as the basic element of line force and service within any police agency. The Patrol Officer represents the front line where agency policies and plans are translated into action. This includes the prevention, detection, and suppression of crime, preservation of law and order, and the protection of life and property. Patrol Officers professionally and efficiently deliver critical services to citizens whom they serve. It is the purpose of this policy to outline the duties and expectations of the Patrol Officer.
Patrol Officers provide a full range of police service to the Borough of Strasburg. Patrol Officers are held directly responsible for handling law enforcement problems, calls for service, citizen requests, police-citizen relations, and police customer service issues. Patrol Officers shall be responsible for the effective and efficient performance of their duties in conformity with the policies and procedures of the department.
SALARY
Salary range for starting Patrol Officer is $60,378.00 to $68,428.00
ABOUT STRASBURG BOROUGH POLICE DEPARTMENT
- The Strasburg Borough Police Department comprises four full-time officers, four part-time officers, and additional support staff.
- The Strasburg Borough Police Department serves 3,000 residents of Strasburg Borough.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Act 120 certified at time of appointment
- 21 years of age at time of appointment
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must possess a valid high school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid PA Driver’s license at time of appointment
- Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation, to include a criminal history check
- Must be physically fit
- Prior use of illegal drugs will factor into the applicant’s background investigation and could result in disqualification
- Must provide truthful and non-misleading information on every part of the employment application
- Residency within 25 miles of Strasburg Borough within six months of appointment
TESTING REQUIREMENTS
- Must pass physical portion of the 2021 Lancaster County Police Consortium Test
- Must pass the written portion of the 2021 Lancaster County Police Consortium Test, with a minimum score of 70% (including all applicable preference points)

- Staff Interview/Oral Board
- Thorough Background Investigation/Reference Check
- Must consent to and pass Polygraph Examination
- Physical Examination and Drug Screen
- Psychological Examination
