GENERAL DUTIES

General duties and responsibilities of this position will vary from foot patrol, bicycle patrol and motor patrol.  The officer’s primary responsibility is the protection of life and property.  The officer is expected to exercise initiative and discretion when faced with routine and emergency situations.  Additionally, the officer is expected to not only handle service calls but also to be proactive in the prevention, detection and apprehension of offenders of crimes in-progress.

SALARY

Starting salary is $52,000 - $56,000.  Salary for following years follows department contract.

ABOUT THE LITITZ BOROUGH POLICE DEPARTMENT:

• The Borough of Lititz has a resident population of just under 10,000 people with a significant increase in the daytime population by people employed by businesses located in the Borough.
• The Lititz Borough Police Department is anticipating on hiring patrol officers, which will be sworn in early 2018.
• The 2016 annual call volume for the Lititz Borough Police Department was just under 7,000 events, according to Lancaster County-Wide Communications (LCWC).
• The Borough of Lititz was named “America’s Coolest Small Town” in 2013.   Lititz is a historical community located in northern Lancaster County and is comprised of a mixture of residential, commercial and retail occupancies.
• The Lititz Borough Police Department is one of only three municipal police agencies in Lancaster County to be Accredited through the PCPA (Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association) Accreditation Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Citizen of the United States and of good moral character.
• At least eighteen (18) years of age.
• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Physically and mentally able to perform duties of the position.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at time of employment.
• Reside within twelve (12) air miles of Lititz Borough boundary line within one (1) year of employment.
• Must be MPOETC Act 120 certified at time of appointment.

HIRING PROCESS

• Interested applicants must participate in the 2017 Lancaster County Chiefs of Police Consortium Examination which will be held on 09/09/2017 and 09/10/2017.  The deadline to register is 08/18/2017.
• Oral examination.
• Thorough background investigation.
• Physical examination to include drug testing along with psychological examination and polygraph test.
• Credit check.
• Check of social media.
