Walton County Sheriff's Office - Transitional Counselor

Job Announcement

The Jail Support Bureau is advertising for the position of Transitional Counselor. This position is responsible for providing evidence-based interventions, education and vocational programs, transition planning, and post release support. This position is responsible for the development of transition plans and connections to post release community-based resources. It will also provide individual cognitive behavioral treatment sessions and group sessions as warranted by the Mental Health Treatment Manager. This position is open to sworn and non-sworn applicants.  

To be eligible for this position, applicants must possess the following qualifications:

-Candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Criminology or related field.

-Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license

-Must be at least 18 years of age

-Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing

-Pass background investigation, polygraph and drug screening.

-Ability to work under stressful conditions.

-Ability to deal with difficult individuals in a correctional setting.

Preference will be given to applicants with previous corrections experience.

HIRING PROCESS:

Applicants will be required to successfully complete:

• Background investigation which includes, but is not limited to: criminal history, driving

history, credit check, previous employment verification.

• Polygraph Examination

• Pre-employment Drug Screen (including nicotine panel)

As part of the selection process applicants for consideration will be required to participate in an oral interview process.
