SALARY

• Starting Salary: $42,000 annually (Step 1) effective January 1, 2026
• Annual step increases per negotiated salary guide
• Top salary up to $86,500 in 2028
• Overtime paid at 1.5x base rate
• Optional compensatory time in lieu of overtime pay

JOB DESCRIPTION
Ventnor City is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher / Communications Operator. Dispatchers are responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police and emergency services, and serving as a vital communications link between the public and first responders.

This is a civilian, non-sworn position within the Ventnor City Police Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Receive, prioritize, and process emergency and non-emergency calls
• Dispatch police and emergency personnel accurately and efficiently
• Monitor radio traffic and maintain clear communications
• Enter and retrieve information using computer-aided dispatch systems
• Maintain composure and sound judgment in high-stress situations
• Follow department policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements

WORK SCHEDULE

• Full-time position (40 hours per week)
• Shift work required, including nights, weekends, and holidays

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to type and operate computer systems efficiently
• Clear speaking voice and strong communication skills
• Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to pass a background investigation
