Margate City - Entry Level Police Officer

The Margate City Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Entry Level Police Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates MUST meet all minimum qualifications to apply
- Must have NO binding obligations to another police department, including, but not limited to time in service and/or financial obligations
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be a resident of NJ
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be of sound moral character verified by a background investigation
- No criminal background. All successful candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation which includes fingerprints, a medical examination and a drug test by urinalysis
- Must work flexible hours and be able to perform all essential job functions for a police officer
- Be physically capable of performing the functions of the position in accordance with the Police Training Commission (PTC)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Emergency Response: Provide 24/7 police services, responding to both emergent and non-emergent calls for service in accordance with department policies.
- Proactive Patrol: Conduct preventive patrol in residential and business districts to deter crime and engage with the community.
- Law Enforcement: Enforce New Jersey state laws, local city ordinances, and motor vehicle regulations.
- Investigations: Perform initial investigations into criminal and non-criminal incidents, including processing crime scenes and collecting evidence.
- Traffic Management: Investigate traffic accidents, direct traffic flow, and issue citations for violations to ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety.
- Community Policing: Actively participate in community outreach programs, such as safety education to build public trust.
- Report Writing: Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed written reports documenting incidents, arrests, and daily activities.
- Court Proceedings: Provide courtroom security and deliver professional testimony in civil and criminal legal proceedings.
- Prisoner Management: Responsible for the safe transport and control of prisoners
Specialized Opportunities:
Once established, officers may have the opportunity to serve in specialized units, including:
- Bike or Motorcycle Patrol
- Crisis Negotiations
- SWAT / Tactical Team
- Drug Recognition Expert (DRE)
