Pompton Lakes Police Department – Communications Center
The Pompton Lakes Police Department is seeking experienced, part-time Public Safety Dispatchers to join our 24/7 Communications Center. Candidates must already hold the following New Jersey certifications:
- Basic Telecommunicator Certification (BTC)
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD)
Our Dispatchers are the first point of contact for all emergencies and public safety requests within the Borough. This position requires professionalism, strong multitasking skills, and the ability to handle high-pressure incidents while providing critical guidance to callers and emergency personnel.
About the Position
- Part-time; schedule includes 12-hour shifts
- Operates in a 24/7 public safety communications center
- Answers and processes police, fire, and EMS calls
- Receives and manages 911 calls, including transfers from other agencies
- Dispatches and coordinates with Police, Fire, EMS, OEM, and mutual aid partners
- Manages multi-channel radio communications
- Utilizes CAD, 911 systems, NCIC, and agency databases
- Provides EMD instructions when required
- Performs administrative and operational tasks essential to public safety communications
Compensation
- $30.60 per hour
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold current BTC & EMD certifications
- Prior dispatch experience strongly preferred
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Must remain calm under pressure and communicate clearly
- Strong typing, data entry, and multitasking skills
- Ability to follow established protocols with accuracy and professionalism
