HIRING NOTICE. Class I Police Officers
The River Edge Police Department is now accepting applications for Class I Police Officers. The application can be accessed on Police App and has a deadline of October 31, 2025.
(Certified Candidates must be without any obligation to another Law Enforcement Department)
Academy starts Tuesday January 14, 2026 at 7pm.
Training consists of two nights a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm-11pm until April 18, 2026.
Who should apply?
- Those looking to enter the field of law enforcement
- Members of the community interested in giving back to their town in times of emergency or special events
- Members of the community interested in law enforcement that have other full time careers.
Minimum qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age and a US Citizen;
- Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent;
- Possess a valid New Jersey Driver's License;
- Must be a resident of New Jersey at the time of appointment;
- If the applicant served in the military, did not receive a dishonorable discharge.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language well and intelligently
- Must be of good moral character and shall not have been convicted of any crime
Hiring Process:
- Review of submitted application
- Complete background investigation
- Formal interview
- Medical, Psychological, and Drug exams upon receipt of conditional offer of employment
Salary:
Currently a volunteer position. In discussion with Mayor and Council about possible future compensation.
