QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong communication and decision-making skills
- Ability to work under stress and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Familiarity with local geography is a plus
- Prior dispatch or emergency services experience preferred
- Must pass a background check and any required certifications
- 40 Hour 911 Basic Certification
- 32 Hour EMD Certification
- Current CPR Certification
- CODY RMS experience - Optional
Position Summary
The Margate City Police Department is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Police Telecommunicator. This vital role is the first point of contact for emergency and non-emergency calls, responsible for dispatching police, fire, and EMS units while maintaining clear and accurate communication with field personnel. The ideal candidate will remain calm under pressure, possess excellent multitasking skills, and demonstrate a strong commitment to public safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer and prioritize 911 and non-emergency calls
- Dispatch appropriate emergency services using radio and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems
- Provide critical information and support to first responders
- Maintain accurate records of calls and unit activity
- Operate various communication and surveillance systems
- Deliver pre-arrival instructions when necessary
- Coordinate with other agencies and departments as needed
