GENERAL DUTIES

The Trenton Police Department is dedicated to the citizens of the City of Trenton! We are a professional community oriented police department whose goal is to ensure the safety of its citizens. We are currently looking for Entry Level candidates that are intelligent, possess good writing skills, good verbal communication skills, like to work with people to solve community problems, are self-starters, and are self-assured, positive thinking persons. 

OUR MISSION

Recognizing that the people of Trenton have made us guardians of the public trust, we realize that crime, disorder, and hazardous conditions present the greatest threats to society, and the responsibility for assisting the public overcoming these threats in our community rests with us. As society changes, so does the role of public safety. Therefore, our goals and objectives shall be committed to developing and implementing innovative programs to improve the Department’s overall performance. Any such program will encourage community members to become involved and be equal partners in determining how given services are received and providing them in a most effective and efficient manner.

POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS

There are many opportunities available to Trenton Police Officers including promotions and lateral transfers. Some of the many positions a police officer may serve in include:

  • Patrol Officer
  • Detective Bureau
  • Community Affairs Unit
  • Vice Enforcement Unit
  • Canine Unit
  • Crime Scene Investigator
  • Evidence Technician

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Resident of the State of New Jersey
  • 18 – 35 Years of Age
  • United States Citizen
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Clean Driving Record
  • Strong Employment History
  • No Indictable and/or Drug Convictions
  • Be of Sound Moral Character
  • Must pass a strenuous physical fitness test (see N.J. P.T.C requirements)

HIRING PROCESS

Once your application is received and you meet the minimum requirements, a background investigation will commence. If the results are satisfactory, you will be scheduled for an oral interview with our hiring panel. Successful candidates will receive a conditional offer of employment. At this stage, you must pass a physical exam, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and the P.T.C. Physical Training Assessment (refer to PTC for minimum requirements). Upon successfully completing these steps, you will proceed to a P.T.C.-certified Police Training Academy.
