MAYWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT
IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR:
FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER (ENTRY LEVEL & CERTIFIED)
The Borough of Maywood, Bergen County is currently accepting applications for the position of full-time police officer. Police Officers work a 12-hour Pitman schedule and have a current signed contract with the Borough which expires on 12/31/2029. Maywood is a non-civil service municipality.
All applicants MUST currently have at least ONE of the following criteria:
- Be a current resident of the State of New Jersey between the ages of 18–35 with no police certification/experience required.
OR
- Be at least 18 years old and:
- Possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission certificate as a fully certified police officer in New Jersey and, if currently employed, have completed two years of permanent appointment status with the current agency as of April 30, 2026
- Possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission certificate as a fully certified police officer in New Jersey after completing the Alternate Route Program within the last 21 months but not yet employed
- Be currently enrolled in a New Jersey police academy as an Alternate Route candidate with a graduation date scheduled prior to May 31, 2026
Applicants must also meet ONE of these two criteria:
- Possess a minimum of 60 college-level credits from an accredited college
- Completion of two consecutive years of military service with an honorable discharge
The application is open to all New Jersey residents, however, we reserve the right to award preference for the following residents:
- Borough of Maywood residents
- Bergen County residents
- Out of County residents
Applications/Resumes will be accepted until April 3, 2026 at 11:59 P.M.
Before appointment, all applicants must undergo and satisfactorily pass medical, psychological/psychiatric examinations, pre-assessment physical fitness test (for non-certified police officers), and drug testing. These assessments will be conducted according to accepted medical and psychological standards to evaluate the candidate's fitness and capability to fulfill the duties of a police officer. Additionally, they will determine the candidate's eligibility for inclusion in the Police and Firemen's Retirement System. All applicants may be subject to a pre-physical fitness agility test.
After the close of the application process, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police will be conducting a written examination for qualified candidates on April 9, 2026 at 6:00 PM.

Top Patrol Salary: $169,478 (Base) with Schedule Adjustment Hours $177,325
