About Frenchtown Borough

Frenchtown is located along the banks of the Delaware River in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, across from Bucks County, Pennsylvania and bordering Alexandria and Kingwood Townships, just south of Milford.

The town is at the hub of five major country roads: Harrison Street which becomes County Route 619 to the north toward Milford; County Route 513, which heads north into Alexandria Township; Kingwood Avenue, which becomes state Route 12 heading east toward Flemington; Trenton Avenue, which becomes Route 29 heading south toward Lambertville, and Bridge Street which, heading west, leads to Pennsylvania over the Uhlerstown-Frenchtown Bridge.

Extending one mile along the Delaware River, Frenchtown is a principal destination for river activities, as well as shopping, dining and a return to simpler times. Most of the borough’s residential and commercial activity lies close to the river. The size of the community is 1.3 square miles. 2010 census figures put the Frenchtown’s population at 1,473, not much more than it was in 1930, when 1,139 people were said to live here.

In recent years, Frenchtown has become a cultural destination with many art galleries and specialty shops and restaurants in the small downtown area. It is home to several street fairs and festivals, including Riverfest and Bastille Day.

Testing & Hiring Process

Candidates must successfully complete:

✅ Pre Academy PT Assessment (Entry Level Only)

✅ Police Academy Training (Entry Level Only)

Exemptions

Applicants meeting the following criteria are exempt from the Physical Agility Test and will proceed directly to the preliminary interview.
✔ Certified in the Basic Course for Police Officer
✔ Currently Enrolled in a NJ PTC-approved Police Academy (BCPO)

Upon Police Academy graduation, officers will undergo field training.

Minimum Qualifications

• US. Citizen, NJ Resident, Valid NJ Driver’s License (at time of appointment)
• 21 Years of age or older
• High School Diploma or GED
• No Criminal Record or any other Automatic Disqualifier (See Automatic Disqualifiers below)
• If served in the military, did not receive a dishonorable discharge;

Additional Requirements

An applicant shall provide to the law enforcement unit, under penalty of perjury, a completed application with a certification, that includes: 

• A waiver form that allows the Commission and the applicant's employing law enforcement unit to review the officer's employment-related information, including records, from any and all prior employed positions, as well as internal affairs records and records relating to any completed applications submitted to law enforcement units, even if the applicant was not employed by that law enforcement unit.
• An acknowledgement that the applicant remains under a continuing obligation to provide necessary information or documentation and cooperation as may from time to time be reasonably requested by the Commission. (c)

• Starting Pay $50,500** ten steps to top pay $110,630

**$43,682.50 for Entry Level.  Will increase upon completion of police academy.  Lateral transfer starting pay can be negotiated.
