Position: Special Law Enforcement Officer Class III (SLEO III)

The Cresskill Police Department, Bergen County, is accepting applications for the position of SLEO III.

The successful candidate is a highly motivated, well-organized, self-directed professional who embraces new challenges and collaborates well with team members. They accept responsibility and see assignments through to completion. They exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate will be privy to highly confidential matters and must display the utmost discretion and professionalism.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a retired law enforcement officer less than 65 years of age, who served as a duly qualified, fully trained, full-time officer in any municipality or county of this State or as a member of the New Jersey State Police and was separated from that prior service in good standing, within 3 years of appointment to this position.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position, as determined by the Police Training Commission.
  • Must possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certification or New Jersey State Police Academy Certification.
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver's License.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation as defined by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, to include a medical exam, drug screen, and psychological exam.
  • School Resource Officer Training will be required within one year of employment. Preference may be given to PTC licensed officers who are already SRO trained and have served as an SRO.
  • The applicant must produce a letter of good standing from the agency from which they retired, listing the date and type of retirement. 

Starting salary shall be $41.32 per hour. The anticipated schedule is forty (40) hours per week only when school is in session. In addition to salary, candidates would receive ten (10) PTO days.
