The Berlin Police Department is initiating the hiring process for the position of Full Time Police Officer.
The department is seeking to hire individuals who are currently looking to obtain a New Jersey Police Training Commission (NJPTC), Basic Certification for Police Officers.
The Berlin Police Department currently has 19 sworn full-time officers and four part-time officers that include: Detectives, Police K-9, Special Response Team Members(SRT), Law Enforcement Against Drugs Instructors (LEAD) and School Resource Officers (SRO) and Field Training Officers (FTO) to name a few.

Minimum Requirements to Apply:
- Is 18 years of age or older;
- Is a citizen of the United States and a resident of New Jersey at the time of appointment;
- Is sound in body and of good health sufficient to satisfy the board of trustees of the police and firemen’s retirement system of New Jersey as to his/her eligibility for membership in the retirement system;
- Can read, write, and speak the English language well and intelligently;
- Is of good moral character and has not been convicted of any criminal offense involving moral turpitude;
- Is a graduate of high school or the holder of a general educational development diploma;
- If served in the military, did not receive a dishonorable discharge;
- Meets all eligibility requirements set forth in N.J.S.A. 40:A14-122, N.J.S.A. 52:17B.71b and N.J.A.C. 13:1-10.2.
- The Appropriate Authority may require additional educational and certification requirements to be eligible for application and consideration.
Candidates must also submit to and pass the following:
- Physical Conditioning, Written, and Oral Panel Testing
- Background Investigation
- Physical Examination
- Psychological Examination
- Drug Screening
- PTC Certified Police Academy
