The Borough of Garwood is located in the center of Union County New Jersey. Once known as the industrial center of Union County, our Borough has transitioned to a more commercial based suburban community conveniently located within easy commuting distance to NYC. Our Department has served and protected our residents and visitors to our community since 1906. With a patrol area of just under one square mile, we serve approximately 5000 residents and have roughly 1750 households. Our Department is comprised of 18 sworn Law Enforcement professionals including the Chief of Police plus 4 civilian dispatchers. The Garwood Police Department is fully accredited agency.

The Garwood Police Department is seeking applications from highly motivated, proactive, and community-oriented New Jersey PTC-certified Police Officers for an immediate full-time opening. We are looking for individuals who demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, professionalism, and a strong commitment to serving the residents of our borough.
CURRENT ALTERNATE ROUTE CANDIDATES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid New Jersey Police Training Commission (PTC) Basic Police Officer Certification
(Alternate Route and Class II with waiver eligibility accepted) - Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of New Jersey
- Minimum 21 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license
- No criminal history; able to pass an extensive background investigation
- Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
