Message: Has anyone recently applied to BPT PD- entry level? Just trying to get a feel for how many fellow applicants there are out there. Also, I understand the objective of this site is to streamline the app. process, but I find it rather odd that the application was a measly '5' pages long, and the info required was mostly high level stuff? I can only imagine that there would have to be a more 'formal' application filled out (personal finance history, employment background), once the 'initial' app. is accepted/denied? Right?

Message:  Bridgeport PD test. So far the count is 1400 applications and counting. Good Luck, especially with the cost.

Message:  Yes, I agree with Jim D. It's easier on the city to fill out this simple application just for the test. If you make it further then the background packet becomes 10-15 pages to fill out, better to do it then than if you fail the first part. I see the $ 135.00 dollars as two fold, if you have someone who is dedicated and belives in themself enough and wants the job bad enough then they'll pay it. On the other hand the city wants to give it's citizens the opportunity to get a city job by offering them a lower application fee, the $135.00 will discourage people who aren't confidient enough in making it all the way. This also makes the applicant pool smaller.

Message:  I had taken the written exam for Wilton CT, only to find out during the exam that there was only 1 opening...There were about 50 people at the exam and there were 3 more testing times that day! One of the officer told me after the exam that there were most likely going to hire internally. I was very disappointed and although I passed the written exam, I did not take the CHIP test because it did not make sense to pay more money when they already had the 1 position potentially filled. Now I have applied to Bridgeport PD. Does anyone know if my written exam from Wilton, which I passed, can be used for the Bridgeport exam? That way I only have to pay for the CHIP Test. Also does anyone know how many positions are open? I heard there were several, but was not sure exactly how many. Thanks.

Message:  Bridgeport is outrageous! $135 for non-Bridgeport residents?? Just how incredibly awesome is this department that it justifies charging $100 more than any other PD in the state? The only people who can afford to apply are the city residents, and I wonder if they can even find 40 people who don't have felonies there!

Message:  I find the fee's to be a bit odd, $100.00 more if your out of state, still it's a great job if it works out. Best of luck to all.

Message:  Makes sense to me- Only reason I asked was because just that happened; "why spend 3 hours etc..." A friend of mine applied to Branford, had to fill out the entire 'formal' app., and unfortunately didn't cut it for the physical. So, I am grateful to have the ability to utilize this great resource- I wanted to make sure I have all the facts here. Thanks for the response though. Side note- speaking from personal experience; would anyone like to comment on the competitiveness of getting into one town's PD over another? I've noticed that some towns (such as Manchester) require college credits, while some don't. I was under the impression that the process would be mostly similar from town to town, to increase the ease of transferring employment if one were to relocate? (Just speculating).

Message:  Yes, there will be a follow up application/background packet for any department you apply to if you make it far enough in the process. Why spend three hours completing a huge application when you may not even score high enough on the test to be considered.
