Certified Police Officer:

The Town of Trumbull is seeking qualified active Connecticut P.O.S.T.C. Certified Police Officers with a minimum two (2) years certification in good standing with their current department, or retired in good standing, possessing current Connecticut P.O.S.T.C. Police Officer certification status for the position of Patrol Officer.  The Town of Trumbull is participating in the Connecticut Police Chief’s Association (CPCA) testing consortium.

*You must register on Policeapp.com and take the certified police officer CPCA written examination. You must pass the CPCA certified police officer written exam with a minimum score of 70%.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicant must possess a valid Connecticut driver’s license at time of appointment.
  • Applicant must be a non-smoker
  • Applicants must be active Connecticut P.O.S.T.C. certified officers with a minimum two (2) years certification in good standing with heir respective agencies.
    Applicant must be a U.S. citizen
  • Applicant must be 21 years old by time of appointment.
  • Applicant must have no felony convictions
  • Applicant must have no domestic violence convictions
  • Applicant must have no A or B Misdemeanor convictions 
  • Applicant must not have had a motor vehicle conviction for Evading Responsibility or Operating under the influence of Alcohol/Drugs or both


IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, CERTIFIED APPLICANTS MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE:

  • Successfully complete a physical agility assessment to be conducted by the police department
  • CPCA Certified Police Officer written examination score of 70% or better.
  • An oral review test
  • A polygraph test
  • A drug screening test
  • A psychological test
  • A complete medical examination
  • An intense and thorough background examination
  • A police commission review board
  • A field training probationary period

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

  • The Town of Trumbull is offering an incentive of up to $30,000 for POST certified police officer candidates who successfully complete the application process and are hired by the Town.  This incentive is available only to police officers currently certified by the Connecticut POST Council who also have a minimum of two (2) years of experience with another police agency in the State.

    Certified police officer candidates who qualify will earn the bonus over the course of their first four (4) years, as they complete each year of service with the Town.  Certified officers will also qualify to begin working at a pay grade above the entry level step, dependent upon their previous years of police experience.  Those officers are eligible to gain one (1) pay grade step for every two (2) years of experience, up to the maximum salary of $91,477.15 .

    The Town will pay qualifying officers the Incentive Bonus of $30,000, in the following installments:

    • $2,000 will be paid following successful completion of a probationary training period
    • $4,000 will be paid on the officer's one-year anniversary
    • $8,000 will be paid on the officer's two-year anniversary
    • $8,000 will be paid on the officer's three-year anniversary
    • $8,000 will be paid on the officer's four-year anniversary
